The Daily Dirt

Pearl Jam Back on Top

Back on top? "We just found out our new album is number 1" shouted Eddie Vedder to the Gibson Amphitheatre crowd in Los Angeles. "We had some number one albums a while ago. We didn't give a shit then." He stopped to gauge the crowds reaction and went right back to the microphone after a slug of some red wine, "We don't give a shit now. But some of us are dads. So now, we can say to our kids, 'Hey, just remember, you're dad is number one" Vedder went on.

So yes, although it's hard to believe, Pearl Jam has finally got an album that they can brag about and the suits at the record labels get. The latest release from the band plants them on the top of the Billboard Top 200 chart for the first time since 1996's No Code.

The release, entitled "Backspacer" is the bands ninth studio album of their long guided career. The release sold 189,000 units nationally in it's first week on the charts. Locally, Pearl Jam has always had a strong following and it showed in the local stores as well. Radio 2.0 reported that the album went to the top in the local market as well, followed closely by the Dave Matthews Band at number two in it's 15th week and Mark Knopfler's new release Get Lucky.

Fame Kills Tour Canned

America's Retard. What was supposed to be a thirty-three date tour that would feature Lady Gaga and Kanye West starting on November 20th has been 86'ed. The reason for the scratch wasn't given but was confirmed that Live Nation is the one who pulled the plug.

The cancellation comes at an awkward time as the tour was just announced two weeks ago.

Rumors have made it on the Internet that Kanye's reputation after the September 13th MTV VMA's took such a beating that people weren't willing to come out and support the tour but the sales for the concert have been on par. Personally, we'd roll with Kanye before we'd ever roll with whatever Lady Gaga is trying to be in her many costumes that down right freak us out.

Kanye might be taking that time off he so desperately said he needed on Leno the night after the VMA's. He cited the music business and the hectic schedule as reasons for not being able to slow down and really mourn the loss of his mother in 2006.

Meanwhile, Gaga isn't letting the tour affect her plans. Rolling Stone reports that she has hinted at recording with Dr. Dre soon. We'll see what creature she is this time.

Green Day Breakdown

Green Dizzle Yo.

After the successful release of their latest studio album 21st Century Breakdown, the boys from Green Day are hoping that the albums title track has just as much luck as the album did. Green Day announced today that they are releasing another single off of the album entitled “21st Century Breakdown” and we're just telling you because we're sure it's going to be all over the radio like tomorrow. Be prepared.

Rollingstone also reports in other news concerning the band, that the response to the band's musical American Idiot has been so hot that they've already extended the closing date back to November 1st in hopes of getting more shows (and people) through the doors and on to the stage. The show was originally scheduled to run until October 11th but the high demand for seating has led the producers to continue the show for another few weeks.

Anything the band touches lately, seems to be turning to gold.

T-Pain and iPhone?

...why?

Just when you thought your iPhone had everything you needed to make your life as easy and cool as possible, the iPhone has added another application that will make you sound just like T-Pain. That's right boys and girls, music has come to this. Click a few buttons, start singing, and produce a record all on a cellular phone that has been catching high acclaim for it's services offered with it.

The “I Am T-Pain” app on the iPhone now lets anyone jump on their phone with their horrible voice, click a few buttons and get their auto-tune on.

“In two years people are gonna be performing on stage with the iPhone,” T-Pain promises. ” ‘Cause I got so many ideas that we can just keep upgradin’, upgradin’, and upgradin’.”

Alright we're not so sure on that, but we can tell you Jay-Z was wrong, dead wrong. The state of the industry is in a downward spiral, and it's dressed in a top hat and singing through the filters of what seems to be robotic noises. Death to rap is upon us, not autotune.

The Bravery Announce Tour

Takin' it to the streets

The Bravery don't want you to get it wrong. They appreciated opening up for Green Day on their huge tour, rolling in front of the tour bus with all the fans swarming it, walking by un-noticed when Billy Joe got swamped by young women.

Alright, it may not have been that bad but the Bravery are just tired of opening up for other bands who get more acclaim then they do. It's their time damn it and now they have made it official.

The Bravery have announced an ambitious tour that they'll be headlining to support their new release which goes on sale November 10th.

The band plans to provide more then 30 cities on the tour across this great country of ours and the seats start going on sale Saturday August 22nd.

Also, in case you haven't got the memo, their new song “Slow Poison” should be hitting the KGB on September 15th so they'll soon be all over the radio. More then enough reason to head down to the city to check them out.
